"Indeed, a minimum of life, an unchaining from all coarser desires, an independence in the middle of all kinds of outer nuisance; a bit of Cynicism, perhaps a bit of ‘tub’."

Euro 2012 Racism: Football's Grand Hypocrisy

Euro 2012 English team members, distressed by their trip to the Auschwitz Museum,
entertain fans chanting racist abuse at black players.
The BBC Panorama documentary Euro 2012: Stadiums of Hate, broadcast on Sunday 3rd
June, exposed widespread and organised racisism among Ukrainian and Polish football fans, including scenes of Ukrainian supporters kicking and punching a small group of Asian fans -- who were supporting the same team. The bleating from UEFA was that they had been made aware of "isolated incidents of racist chanting". And UEFA president, Michel Platini’s contribution to the “clamp down on racism” was to issue a warning that any player who walked off the pitch during a game in response to racist abuse would be yellow-carded.
